I just have to brag

My hubby got rookie teacher of the year for his campus here in the Waxahachie School District. Woo hoo! He really deserves it. He has been an awesome first year teacher, and I am so very proud of him! His students love him, and I've even helped him out with creativity in his classroom a bit! :) He had a surprise visit from the Superintendent, the assistant Superintendent, and the PR lady who brought him flowers to his classroom. In May, we find out whether or not he gets Rookie Teacher of the Year for the entire district. That comes with prizes! :)

I love weddings

Our friends, Josh and Brittney, are getting married this weekend. Recently, I have been helping Britt with slideshows, playlists, etc. for the wedding. We attended the Dallas Bridal Show back in January and got some good ideas. And, obviously, Scott and I got married just recently in December. Well, through it all, I have learned that I really, really like planning weddings! So, for those of you who don't know already, I've decided to start my own wedding planning business on the side. It's going to be called Ever After Weddings. I actually have a website, but it's not anywhere close to being done, so I will post the link when it is ready! :) I'm planning on this being a mainly summer job, at least for now, but hopefully, I'll be able to pick up a few here and there throughout the year as well. So, slowly but surely, I hope to get the word out! I'm excited and feel like it will be a way to me to use my creativity and really make each person's wedding unique and very personal to them. Please let me know of any websites you know of that may be helpful to me. Obviously, I am very new at this, but I can't wait to get started! Lots of Love!

A Valentine Tale

On the Friday before Valentine's day, my hubby text me while I was at work:

"Kind of awkward in class today. Got a huge kiss from a student. Didn't know what to do. Can't talk. I'll explain later."

What do you do with a text like that? I mean, don't get my wrong. Obviously, my husband is very attractive, and I wouldn't be surprised if a couple Middle School girls thought about him romantically, but to actually act on feelings in 7th grade, knowing he was married?! I responded,

"It better have been either from a boy or at least on the cheek."

"no and no. I'll tell you more at home". . . Wow, by this time, I had relayed the texts to my student worker in my office, a senior at the high school. We both sat there and wondered how Scott dealt with the situation. Did he turn the student into the office? Did the principal come down to the classroom? What were the other students saying?

I stopped by the tanning bed on my way home and wondered the entire time I laid there what would possess a 7th grader to do that.

Upon arriving at home, I walked in the door waiting for the explanation I had thought about for the last hour and a half. My husband walked into our entryway with a huge Hershey kiss he got for Valentine's Day.

He thinks he's so funny.

Long Overdue

Ok, so it's been awhile since we posted. Over two weeks to be exact. Wow, how time flies! Just a little update about what's been going on in the lives of Scott and Ashley:

- We had a delightful Valentine's dinner at a supposedly "haunted" restaurant in Waxahachie called Catfish Plantation. We were somewhat disappointed about not seeing anything near "haunted", but the carriage ride after it made up for it. It was just perfect. We finished the evening with our own chocolate fondue at home. Needless to say, 1st married Valentine's day was fabulous.

- I passed the 4-8 Generalist content test for teaching. Meaning, for those of you not familiar with the Texas education system, I can now enroll in an alternate certification program where I take classes on my own to become certified to teach. Once I complete the program, I will be certified to teach English, History, Science, or Math to grades 4th through 8th. I would definitely prefer Middle School English, but we will see if I get that lucky! :) This could happen by next school year!

- Scott bought me a bike on Sunday. He's been riding his while I walk very quickly beside him for my workout, and we decided it was time for me to get one! Our first workout was yesterday. I will say a part of my body is quite sore but not the part I expected. I believe the bike seat bruised my rear. It's ached all day long. Guess you get what you pay for when it comes to padding on a $60.00 bike from Walmart. Definitely buying a better seat before we go again!

- Lastly, our dear friends and neighbors, Danny and Emily Duran, had a healthy little girl today, Lille Grace. We are sooo excited for them and can't wait to see her!

Promise we will write more frequently, so every blog doesn't turn out to be this long. Until next time. . .

Our New Home. . . Finally!

So after closing on our house about three months ago, getting married, honeymoon, Christmas, and then going back to work, we are finally decorated and settled!!! :) It's about time. It's so nice to come home and not have to work all night doing things around the house. I now feel complete - well, almost. There's one box left in the garage and then we can pull our cars in! Here are some pictures of our home sweet home!

These are pictures our our entry way, living room, breakfast area, kitchen, living room, guest bedroom, master bedroom, and office.

Bye, Little Girl

School was cancelled yesterday, so I got to spend a lovely day, well most of the day, at home with my hubby, finishing projects in our house. YAY! When it ices in Texas, school seems to be cancelled rather quickly. They don't have salt trucks, or at least as many salt trucks, as they do in Kansas, and when the roads freeze, it usually takes at least a day to get them fully cleaned off. But. . . I am definitely not complaining. No work! :)

We made one outing to Hobby Lobby and Ross. As we were walking into Ross, I slipped on ice. No, not just the "whoa, I almost fell, grab onto the hubby" slip, but the "feet out from underneath me, no limbs on the ground, please help me not break anything" slip. I can't remember the last time I did that. Being the great, loving hubby that he is, Scott did not laugh at all but immediately bent to see if I was okay. Oh, and don't think, I got away unnoticed. Many people saw it happen, and I don't know how they stiffled their laughter, honestly. Needless, to say my bum was wet, it hurt like crazy, and my wrist was sore, but no tears were shed. As we were shopping inside, Scott said, "Thanks for not being a little girl and crying because you were embarassed." Guess I'm growing up. . . :)

Newlywed Test #1

So, I was on my way to the hair salon last Friday when I called my new hubby:

"Hey, babe! Just wanted to see what you would like me to do with my hair? Should I keep the blonde, add a little brown? What do you think?"

"Hmmm. . . try a little brown, maybe a lot of brown. . ."

"Okay. . . "

Two hours later. . .

As I returned home, I asked Scott to close his eyes as I came in the door. I stood right in front of him and he opened them. He was speechless, in quite shock, I believe. "I'll get my sweet innocent Ashley back soon, right?"
So, he really does like it. . . he just doesn't want me to keep it brown for good! :)
I guess I'll let you know if blondes really do have more fun.

Hello, Blog World!

Okay, well after watching numerous friends have fun in this blogging world, Scott and I have finally decided to make one of our own! I'm assuming most of the posts will be from the brilliant mind of mwah ;), but you may be blessed with my other half chiming in every once in awhile when I beg him! Hee, hee! He is quite witty and humorous at times, and I wouldn't want to waste that! We're doing this to mainly keep everyone updated on our lives and to share our random thoughts and feelings about experiences we have together! We hope to be helpful and inspirational but most importantly, just fun! We love life, and we love to share life with friends! One more thing: our first shoutout goes to. . . Danny and Emily Duran!!! We love you guys! They are seriously the greatest friends in the world, and we couldn't be more blessed to have them in our lives. Thank you for everything you guys have done for us! We will post pics soon of our new house they helped us paint into the late hours of the evening last night. It's amazing. :)
